LOUISVILLE, Ky. — At an event in Louisville today, Spectrum, the #1 rural internet provider in the nation*, and leaders from Metro Louisville including Mayor Craig Greenberg and Councilman Stuart Benson announced updates on two network construction projects in rural and previously unserved parts of Jefferson County. After completion of the projects, more than 1,800 homes and small businesses will have access to Spectrum Internet, Mobile, TV and Voice services for the first time.

The projects were made possible through Kentucky’s “Better Internet Program” grant, funding from Metro Louisville, and an investment from Charter, and will result in more than 27.5 miles of new network at a cost of nearly $7.5 million.

“Our investment is making it possible to deliver the high-value broadband, mobile, TV and voice services now available in Jefferson County,” said Jeff Gehrig, Southern Ohio Regional Vice President of Field Operations for Charter Communications, Inc., which operates under the Spectrum brand of connectivity products and services. “We are providing local residents and small businesses superior connectivity at highly competitive prices, backed by a team of skilled local technicians and 100% U.S.-based customer service.”

Louisville Metro Councilman Stuart Benson says today’s announcement is the culmination of many years of hard work to expand broadband service to rural parts of the city.

“People have come to understand that reliable high-speed broadband is no longer a luxury but a necessity for work, school and business. After a decade of working to bring broadband to the southeastern Jefferson County residents who reside in unserved households, this is undoubtably one of the most important projects undertaken since the start of merged government. We are so excited to announce that the entire county will soon have access to broadband they need to conduct business, educate themselves and make this community a stronger and more vital Metro Louisville and I am proud to have been part of this effort with a team of leaders from both the public and private sectors,” he said.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg says the city has an obligation to ensure everyone has equal access to critical services.

“Every Louisville resident deserves reliable, quality internet regardless of their zip code – and thanks to Spectrum, more of our rural neighbors will now have that access,” said Mayor Craig Greenberg. “Spectrum continues to be a great partner to Louisville, and we are grateful for their continued investment in our city and our future.”

U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey appreciates the cooperation between Louisville’s leadership and Charter to expand broadband service in the county.

“Whether you’re a student doing your homework online or an entrepreneur looking to start a business, everyone deserves access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet. That’s why I’m fighting for continued investments in broadband expansion across Louisville’s underserved communities. Thanks to President Biden’s American Rescue Plan and public-private partnerships, we’re working to close the digital divide and get more Louisvillians connected and online,” he said.
