Buildout to Reach nearly 1,400 Homes and Small Businesses in Lincoln County
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Spectrum today announced construction will soon be underway on a fiber-optic network expansion project that will bring gigabit broadband and other Spectrum services to nearly 1,400 homes and small businesses in Lincoln County at an event today in Stanford, Ky.
The buildout is part of Spectrum’s approximately $5 billion investment in unserved rural areas, which includes more than $1 billion won in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) auction. The company’s RDOF expansion will provide broadband access to approximately 1 million customer locations as estimated by the FCC across 24 states in the coming years.
Additional support for the projects comes from the Kentucky’s Better Internet Program, which includes a more than $203 million investment to expand reliable and affordable high-speed internet to more than 34,000 Kentucky families and businesses.
“Broadband is a vital resource for work, learning and personal connection,” said Dwight Buchanon, Vice President, Construction FO Rural Build. “Leveraging resources won in the RDOF auction, we’re building a high-speed, high-capacity network that will bring gigabit internet to nearly 1,400 homes and small businesses in Lincoln County — an investment that will ensure families and businesses can participate fully in the digital world, now and well into the future.”
Rep. Hal Rogers has made Kentucky broadband expansion a priority and appreciates Charter’s efforts to make the service more widely available.
“I have been diligently working to improve broadband access in southern and eastern Kentucky, and this expansion is proof that we are making important strides in connectivity. The Rural Digital Opportunity Fund and Spectrum’s investment in Lincoln County is bringing high-speed internet to more rural communities, ensuring that we have access to the global grid for greater opportunities for our students, our businesses, and our families. Kentucky is finally rising up the ranks for connectivity, thanks to vital investments like this,” he said.
Kentucky Speaker Pro Tempore David Meade says today’s announcement is an important step in ensuring all Kentuckians have equal access to broadband service.
“Expanding high-speed internet access for all Kentuckians, regardless of location, has been a top priority during my service in the Kentucky House of Representatives. Partnerships with stakeholders like Spectrum, local communities, and utility pole owners make these infrastructure projects a success and will soon bring high-speed internet access to hundreds of rural families.”
