LEXINGTON, Ky. — During a presentation at the Garrard County Fiscal Court, Spectrum joined Kentucky House Speaker Pro Tempore David Meade and County Judge-Executive Chris Elleman in announcing an $8.8 million project that will bring gigabit speed broadband access to nearly 800 homes and small businesses in the county. Funding for the project includes more than $5.1 million from Spectrum, which will be matched with more than $3.7 million from the state’s Broadband Deployment Fund.

“This is incredible news for Garrard County, particularly for those folks who live or work in the almost 800 homes and businesses that will soon be able to access high speed internet as a result of this project,” said Speaker Meade. “I’m proud of the legislature’s work and honored to see the results right here in my district. We created the Broadband Deployment Fund with the specific intent of making sure we take advantage of every opportunity to deliver broadband to rural Kentucky and I appreciate Spectrum’s commitment to matching state dollars with their own $5 million investment.”

Spectrum is Kentucky’s largest broadband provider, serving nearly 800,000 customers and employing more than 3,200 residents in the Commonwealth.

“Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to unserved communities across America through RDOF and other state and local programs such as our agreement with Garrard County,” said Jeff Gehrig, Regional Vice President. “Our investment is making it possible to deliver the high-value broadband, mobile, TV and voice services which is already available in parts of Garrard County. We are providing residents and small businesses superior connectivity at highly competitive prices, backed by a team of skilled local technicians and U.S.-based customer service.”

Garrard County Judge Executive Chris Elleman said the cooperation Congressman Meade, Spectrum and the County displayed throughout the process made today’s announcement possible.

"This was one of the highest priorities on my list as Judge, and it couldn't have been accomplished without the work/investment of Spectrum and Speaker Meade,” he said. “I can't thank Spectrum and the Representative enough for their commitment and dedication to this important step forward for our community."
