Buildout to Reach 2,600 Homes and Small Businesses in Boyle County

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Spectrum today announced construction is underway on fiber-optic network expansion projects that will bring gigabit broadband and other Spectrum services to more thank 2,600 homes and small businesses in Boyle County, Kentucky. Spectrum services are expected to be available to residents and small business owners in Boyle County at an event today in Gravel Switch, Ky.

The buildout is part of Spectrum’s approximately $5 billion investment in unserved rural areas, which includes more than $1 billion won in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) auction. The company’s RDOF expansion will provide broadband access to approximately 1 million customer locations as estimated by the FCC across 24 states in the coming years.

Additional support for the projects comes from the Kentucky’s Better Internet Program which includes a more than $203 million investment to expand reliable and affordable high-speed internet to more than 34,000 Kentucky families and businesses.

“Broadband is a vital resource for work, learning and personal connection,” said Dwight Buchanon, Vice President, Construction FO Rural Build. “Leveraging resources won in the RDOF auction, we’re building a high-speed, high-capacity network that will bring gigabit internet to thousands of homes and small businesses in Boyle County — an investment that will ensure families and businesses can participate fully in the digital world, now and well into the future.”

U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie says today’s announcement is an important step in fulfilling one of his key priorities.

“As more Americans learn, work, and receive health care using broadband, closing the digital divide becomes increasingly important for communities in my district and is a priority of mine as a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Communications and Technology Subcommittee. Charter Communications’ broadband expansion announcement in Boyle County is a success story of the federal government, the state government, and a private partner working together to deliver this critical infrastructure. I am excited about the benefits that this broadband expansion will bring Boyle County residents and look forward to working with the community as the project is implemented,” Guthrie said.

Boyle County Judge Executive Howard Hunt believes today’s announcement will go a long way to get essential broadband service to county residents and small businesses who have been eagerly waiting for it.

“Boyle County’s rural families and small businesses have much to celebrate today as we announce the start of an exciting partnership with Charter to bring high-speed fiber access to unserved and underserved residents. Internet access is the first step in closing our digital divide, and these projects will unlock so many opportunities for our Boyle County communities."
