Network Buildout is Part of Spectrum’s $7 Billion Rural Construction Initiative

TAMPA, Fla. — Spectrum, the #1 rural internet provider in the nation*, announced it has completed construction projects that added more than 35,000 homes and small businesses in Florida, well ahead of schedule, providing Floridians and small businesses in rural areas with broadband service, many for the first time, at an event in Marion County.

In addition to Spectrum Internet, the nation’s leading rural build company will also provide mobile, TV and voice services.

Spectrum's multi-year rural construction initiatives are driven by more than $7 billion in private investment from Spectrum and will ultimately add 100,000+ miles of fiber-optic network infrastructure and deliver symmetrical and multi-gigabit speed internet access to more than 1.7 million new locations across the country.

“Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to unserved communities in Florida and across America,” said Geoff Banning, Regional Vice President of Field Operations at Spectrum. “Our investment is making it possible to deliver the high-value broadband, mobile, TV and voice services now available to rural parts of Florida. We are providing local residents and small businesses superior connectivity at highly competitive prices, backed by a team of skilled local technicians and 100% U.S.-based customer service.”

U.S. Congresswoman Kat Cammack spoke at the event and commended Spectrum for its commitment to bring broadband service and its critical infrastructure to rural Floridians, many for the first time.

“All Floridians deserve access to reliable, high-speed internet, regardless of where they live. In partnership with providers like Spectrum, we are working to ensure that rural communities across our state get access to the digital tools they need to thrive,” she said.

Florida State Representative Josie Tomkow, the primary sponsor of the state’s broadband grant program, understands the challenges of living in rural parts of the state as her family has a ranch in rural Polk County.

“Broadband is essential to everyday life in rural communities. I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and opportunities of connectivity at our family ranch in Polk County, as have the thousands of Floridians living in rural areas across the state,” said Representative Tomkow. “Spectrum understands that broadband access isn’t a luxury – it’s a lifeline for Florida’s economy and the education of the young people in our state. I applaud their commitment to working across sectors to help bring reliable broadband to the communities that need it most.”

As part of the event, Spectrum awarded the United Way of Marion County with a $30,000 Spectrum Digital Education Grant to further its digital education initiatives.

GoldMark Farm Owner Paul Bulmahn said his operations are increasingly global and having access to fast, reliable broad is critical to their ability to grow and expand.

“Teaching students here and in Europe requires fast and reliable broadband. It is not a luxury; it is an essential part of our business. Our partnership with Spectrum is vitally important so we can be assured our connection with the rest of our global markets is fast, safe and reliable,” he said.
