ALBANY, N.Y. – Spectrum News 1 today announced its exclusive weekly public affairs program will launch to all Spectrum video and internet customers across Upstate New York on February 6. Hosted by award-winning journalist JoDee Kenney, “In Focus News York” will now air Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in the Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo regions, in addition to the Capital Region, where the program first launched in 2017. The February 6 episode will feature a one-on-one conversation with Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin, first in a series of in-depth conversations that will air throughout Black History Month with some of the state’s top Black leaders.
“We are excited to expand ‘In Focus’ and bring together local and state elected officials, community leaders and advocates from across New York to discuss key topics that deserve a more thoughtful, concise conversation from various perspectives,” said Alexander Quince, Senior Director, News, Spectrum News 1.
In addition to Lt. Governor Benjamin, Kenney will sit down with Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes on February 13, interview New York Attorney General Letitia James on February 20, and speak one-on-one with Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Rochester Mayor Malik Evans on February 27.
"’In Focus New York’ will give New Yorkers across the state an opportunity to hear directly from their leaders and stay informed on the important issues impacting their day-to-day lives,” said Attorney General Letitia James. “As the show launches during Black History Month, I’m honored to be among the first slate of guests to share with New Yorkers the work my office is doing to protect and defend their rights. I look forward to tuning in regularly to hear my colleagues in government and community leaders share their vision for a stronger and fairer New York.”
Each week, “In Focus New York” delves into a range of state and local issues of importance to New Yorkers through informative conversations with policymakers, political influencers and community leaders. The weekly 30-minute program offers objective and in-depth viewpoints from a roundtable of newsmakers representing a full range of perspectives, including government officials and expert analysts as they tackle topical issues such as health care, education, immigration, criminal justice reform and more.
Hosted by award-winning reporters and anchors, Spectrum Networks’ exclusive line-up of In Focus programs are currently available in New York, Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas and California.
