Spectrum to Launch Gigabit Broadband, Mobile, TV and Voice Services in Rural Clinton County

Spectrum and Clinton County Commissioners Announce an $18 Million Project to Give 5,000 Rural Residents and Small Businesses Access to Broadband for the First Time

WILMINGTON, Ohio — Spectrum today announced it will soon launch Spectrum Internet, Mobile, TV and Voice services to homes and small businesses in rural and previously unserved parts of Clinton County, Ohio. The announcement was made at an event in Wilmington today where the company, community leaders and elected officials highlighted the many benefits of Spectrum’s network expansion projects throughout the area.

Spectrum is taking significant steps to close the digital divide in Clinton County through two major projects. The first is the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF). Construction began in January 2022 and will bring broadband services to more than 2,000 locations. Activations for this project are 85% complete and work continues. The second project announced today is a local agreement with Clinton County which will further expand broadband services to an additional 3,000 locations, an $18+ million investment from Spectrum and Clinton County.

Once completed, more than 5,000 homes and small businesses across all thirteen townships within the county will have access to broadband and other services for the first time. “Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to unserved communities across America through RDOF and other state and local programs such as our agreement with Clinton County,” said Jeff Gehrig, Regional Vice President of Operations. “Our investment is making it possible to deliver the high-value broadband, mobile, TV and voice services which is already available in parts of Clinton County. We are providing residents and small businesses superior connectivity at highly competitive prices, backed by a team of skilled local technicians and U.S.-based customer service.”

He also thanked Clinton County Commissioners Mike McCarty, Kerry Steed and Brenda Woods for their efforts to create the Clinton County Grant which will augment the work Spectrum is already doing in rural parts of the county.

U.S. Rep. Brad Wenstrup says the commitment by Clinton Count and Spectrum is vital to the growth and prosperity in the region.

“I am pleased that the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund and Spectrum were able to help with the needed expansion of rural broadband in Southwestern Ohio, helping to connect over 5,000 small businesses and homes. Our students, seniors, and businesses rely on the power of fast and affordable internet for education, connection, and growth. This expansion will help grow the capabilities of our communities, he said.”

Spectrum’s newly constructed fiber-optic network buildout in the county is part of the company’s approximately $5 billion RDOF-related investment in unserved rural communities, which includes $1 billion won in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) RDOF auction. The company’s RDOF expansion will provide broadband access to approximately one million customer locations as estimated by the FCC across 24 states in the coming years.

Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dessie Rogers is pleased to see leaders from Clinton County recognize the need and take action to supplement the broadband expansion Spectrum is already doing in rural parts of the county which will help bridge the digital divide.

“We have been working diligently with employers and service providers to increase broadband accessibility throughout our region, and we’re excited to celebrate Spectrum’s recent RDOF expansion and collaborative investment with Clinton County to bring high-speed, reliable internet connectivity to our communities, she said.”
