Network Buildout is Part of Spectrum’s $5 Billion, Multiyear Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) Investment in Rural Broadband

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Spectrum today announced the launch of Spectrum Internet, Mobile, TV and Voice services to 315 homes and small businesses in rural and previously unserved parts of Jackson County, Ohio. Spectrum’s newly constructed fiber-optic network buildout in the county is part of the company’s approximately $5 billion investment in unserved rural communities, which includes $1.2 billion won in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) RDOF auction. The company’s RDOF expansion will provide broadband access to approximately 1 million customer locations as estimated by the FCC across 24 states in the coming years.

Construction on the project in Jackson County kicked off this year, and once complete, almost 4,050 Jackson County residents will have access to broadband service for the first time. The ribbon-cutting event to celebrate service being activated to the first 315 homes and small businesses took place in Wellston, OH.

Spectrum Internet Gig, with download speeds of 1 Gbps, is now available throughout the buildout area. Spectrum Internet offers starting speeds of 300 Mbps, with Spectrum Internet Ultra providing download speeds of 500 Mbps. For small and medium-sized businesses, Spectrum Business Internet offers download speeds of 300 Mbps, 600 Mbps and 1 Gbps. Local residents and business owners should visit to learn more about when their home or business may be able to receive Spectrum services.

“Through RDOF, Spectrum is making a multiyear investment to extend gigabit broadband networks to unserved communities across America,” said Dwight Buchanon, Vice President, Construction FO Rural Build. “Our commitment is making it possible to deliver the high-value broadband, mobile, TV and voice services now available in Jackson County. We are providing superior connectivity to local residents and small businesses at highly competitive prices, backed by an organization committed to craftsmanship and service.”

Spectrum Internet® has been consecutively ranked as one of the best internet service providers by U.S. News & World Report, and also earned the highest rating among the Best Internet Service Providers for Rural Areas, underscoring our ongoing commitment to connecting more communities from coast to coast. Spectrum Internet also exceeded advertised download and upload speeds for all tiers measured — even during peak weeknight usage between 7 and 11 p.m. — according to the FCC’s most recent “Measuring Broadband America Fixed Broadband Report” issued in December 2021. And all Spectrum Internet plans have no data caps, modem fees or contracts.

U.S Representative Bill Johnson applauds Charters efforts to expand vital services to rural and previously parts of Jackson County and other parts of the Buckeye State.

“Having access to high-speed, reliable internet service is crucial in our fast-growing, interconnected digital world. Charter’s work across the state has countless benefits, including driving economic development in rural parts of Ohio, like Jackson County. Reliable internet connectivity isn’t a luxury, it’s a must,” said Congressman Johnson.

In addition to his work with the Ohio Legislature, Ohio State Senator Bob Peterson is also a farmer who knows how difficult it is to run an agribusiness without proper broadband connectivity.

“As a farmer, I understand first-hand how important an internet connection has become to running a successful business. Spectrum’s new RDOF expansion is great news for small businesses and residents in rural Ohio.”

Ohio State Representative Jason Stephens says today’s announcement is welcome news for those that have lacked sufficient broadband service.

“Parts of rural Ohio have lacked internet access for too long, and the pandemic made it worse for unserved communities to be connected. Spectrum’s expansion creates opportunity and advancement for people of Jackson County.”

Jackson County Commissioner Jon Hensler understands first-hand what this means for his neighbors and the community he represents.

“High-speed broadband access throughout Jackson County will support students, teachers, patients, doctors, farmers, and families who want to stay connected. All in all, Spectrum’s broadband expansion brings high-speed connectivity to help residents across the county thrive.”
