EAGLE RIVER, Wis. — Spectrum joined state Sen. Mary Felzkowski, state Rep. Rob Swearingen and community leaders today in Eagle River to celebrate a fiber-optic network buildout that will ultimately bring gigabit broadband and other Spectrum services to nearly 700 homes and small businesses in the Eagle River and outlying area, following completion of a $1.1 million public-private network expansion project.

As part of Wisconsin’s Broadband Expansion Grant Program, Spectrum was awarded approximately $130,000 in funds to expand services to nearly 700 homes in the Silver Lake and Deerskin Lake areas. Spectrum made a significant private investment of nearly $1 million into the project.

“Wisconsin’s Broadband Expansion Grant program is great tool to help us partner with local municipalities such as the Town of Lincoln and Town of Washington to expand broadband access to their residents,” said Adam Raschka, Sr. Director of State Government Affairs for Spectrum. “This grant awarded to Spectrum for the Eagle River area means that nearly 700 unserved homes and business will have access to high-speed broadband connections to succeed in today’s digital society.”

As part of a ceremonial ribbon cutting, Spectrum representatives, along with Sen. Felzkowski, Rep. Swearingen and leaders from the towns of Lincoln and Washington celebrated the expansion project and discussed the importance of bringing high-speed broadband to unserved areas across Wisconsin’s northwoods.

“The state broadband expansion grants are bringing high-speed connectivity to Wisconsin’s rural communities and we are elated,” said Sen. Felzkowski. “Spectrum’s latest network expansion will connect more Wisconsinites and open doors for new opportunities in work, education, and health care for these families and small businesses.”

Spectrum’s high-bandwidth, low-latency network means local residents now have access to gigabit speeds with Spectrum Internet, which includes starting internet speeds of 300 Mbps with no modem fees, data caps or contracts. Spectrum Internet Ultra, which features download speeds up to 500 Mbps, is also available to residential customers. For small and medium-sized businesses, Spectrum Business® offers gigabit connections, with starting speeds of 300 Mbps and a 600 Mbps option.

"The Town of Washington has partnered with Spectrum to increase the high speed internet coverage to additional areas within the Town.  We are excited that Spectrum has chosen to expand coverage to our residents in the Town of Washington," said Jim Egan, Town of Washington Chairperson.

“The arrival of Spectrum services in the Town of Lincoln will help residential customers to learn or work remotely, making this area a year-round destination that offers the same amenities as bigger cities,” said Bill Marshall, Chair for the Town of Lincoln Broadband Committee.

Most construction completed earlier this summer and customers are currently signing up for Spectrum’s full suite of services.

Spectrum Internet® has been consecutively ranked as one of the best internet service providers by U.S. News & World Report, and also earned the highest rating among the Best Internet Service Providers for Rural Areas, underscoring our ongoing commitment to connecting more communities from coast to coast. Spectrum Internet® also exceeded advertised download and upload speeds for all tiers measured — even during peak weeknight usage between 7 and 11 p.m. — according to the FCC’s most recent “Measuring Broadband America Fixed Broadband Report” issued in December 2021.
