FESTUS, Mo. — Spectrum today announced it has been awarded two ARPA Broadband Infrastructure Grants of more than $4.3 million to bring gigabit high-speed internet access to more than 1,500 homes and small businesses in Jefferson County. Combined with the state grant and a contribution from the county of more than $1.56 million, total project investment, including $4.2 million from Spectrum, is more than $10 million.

“I’m thrilled that Spectrum will be expanding its network infrastructure to unserved and underserved areas of Jefferson County thanks to the state’s recent broadband grant announcement that helps improve internet access statewide,” said state Senator Elaine Gannon. “Spectrum is the right provider to bring high-speed internet access to these communities.”

“During my time representing Missouri’s 115th district, I have prioritized workforce and economic development. The key to success in both of these areas is reliable access to the internet, and now, more communities in Jefferson County will have Spectrum’s high-speed connectivity available at their doorstep through the state’s Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program,” said state Representative Cyndi Buchheit-Courtway.

Spectrum is already Missouri’s largest broadband provider, serving 878,000 customers and employing more than 6,500 residents in the state.

“Gov. Parson, his administration and the Missouri Office of Broadband Development have shown tremendous leadership in embracing public-private partnerships as a vital strategy for connecting unserved communities,” said Todd Baxter, Vice President of Government Affairs at Charter Communications, Inc., which operates the Spectrum brand of connectivity services. “We applaud Jefferson County officials for contributing to this project to make a meaningful difference for residents.”

“I applaud the state’s efforts to bridge the digital divide across Missouri,” said Jefferson County Executive Dennis Gannon. “Our county has been diligent with how we spend money allocated for broadband, and I look forward to working with Spectrum to bring fast, reliable internet access to Jefferson County residents who need it most and have lacked connectivity for too long.”

The ARPA Broadband Infrastructure Grant further expand Spectrum’s rural construction initiative, the centerpiece of which is the company’s approximately $5 billion investment in unserved rural communities, which includes more than $1 billion won in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) auction. The company’s RDOF expansion will provide broadband access to approximately 1 million customer locations as estimated by the FCC across 24 states — including more than 60,000 locations in Missouri — in the coming years.

Spectrum Internet® has been consecutively ranked as one of the best internet service providers by U.S. News & World Report, and also earned the highest rating among the Best Internet Service Providers for Rural Areas, underscoring our ongoing commitment to connecting more communities from coast to coast. Spectrum Internet® also exceeded advertised download and upload speeds for all tiers measured — even during peak weeknight usage between 7 and 11 p.m. — according to the FCC’s most recent “Measuring Broadband America Fixed Broadband Report” issued in December 2021.
