Volunteer Stories From Wisconsin That Will Melt Your Heart

Share Article:

In April 2016, nearly 100 Charter employees from Wisconsin joined together with friends and family to help rebuild homes for those in need. Despite rain and wind, our volunteers worked tirelessly, in conjunction with Rebuilding Together of Sheboygan County, and Project Home of Southern Wisconsin. Check out the heartwarming highlights from the day below and watch the video above.

In Sheboygan County, Charter employees partnered with Rebuilding Together to assist an elderly military veteran who uses a wheelchair, with crucial home improvements. Volunteers helped with installing home insulation, making deck repairs, reclaiming the sidewalk and front steps, and completing yard work.

Repairing a Roof Just In Time

We teamed up with Project Home’s “Hammer with a Heart” initiative to tackle a major roofing project for a Stoughton, Wisconsin family in need. While some volunteers tore off shingles, others hauled them away and cleaned the worksite. Their hard work ensured completion of a major project right before the heavy rain hit.

Helping a Homeowner With a Huge Heart

More than 30 Charter employees once again joined forces with Project Home’s “Hammer with a Heart” to assist Mary, a Madison, Wisconsin-area resident. Mary lost her job, her partner, and the foster children that she cared for, but managed to stay positive and keep her home. Employees worked alongside skilled labor crews from the local carpenters’ union to repair a garage roof and deck, while tackling exterior and interior painting projects. Despite the rain – and mud – the crew finished some major landscaping efforts to improve grading and restore Mary’s backyard oasis.

Charter Communications volunteers – many of whom work out of our Fond du Lac, Wisconsin call center – partnered with Rebuilding Together of Sheboygan County, to lead a work crew that was assigned to repair a Sheboygan Falls military veteran’s home. The homeowner is having difficulties and lives alone on a large property that has been in his family since the 1970s. The home’s wear and tear is evident, and volunteers made numerous repairs to the interior and exterior. The team worked to fix the ceiling and kitchen faucet, remove overgrown trees, and refurbish landscaping.
