Buildout to Reach Nearly 1,200 Homes and Small Businesses in Somerset County

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Spectrum today announced construction is underway on a $10 million fiber-optic network expansion project that will bring gigabit broadband and other Spectrum services to more than 700 homes and small businesses in Somerset County, largely in the Hopewell, Frenchtown-Rumbly, Kingston, Manokin, Marion Station and Shelltown areas. The project is funded by a $8.5 million Connect Maryland Grant, with an additional $75,000 from the County and a $1.4 million investment by Spectrum.

This buildout complements the current expansion already underway in Somerset County that will bring Spectrum services to nearly 500 homes and small businesses, primarily in the Fairmount, Kingston, Manokin, Marion Station, Rehobeth, Upper Fairmount and Westover areas.

Spectrum services are expected to be available to residents and small business owners in the buildout areas by the end of the year. Rated by U.S. News & World Report as the Best Internet Service Provider for Rural Areas in its 2021-22 ratings, Spectrum will offer a variety of broadband options, including Spectrum Internet Gig, featuring download speeds up to 1 Gbps, and its flagship Spectrum Internet® service, with starting download speeds of 300 Mbps.

Spectrum Internet Assist, the company’s low-cost broadband service for qualifying families and seniors, will also be available. Spectrum Internet Assist offers 30 Mbps speeds for just $17.99 per month. All Spectrum Internet plans have no data caps, modem fees or contracts.

“We have a consistent track record of investing in our network to provide high-value broadband, TV, mobile and voice services,” said Doug Davis, Spectrum Regional Vice President, Field Operations, Carolinas Region. “We are now delivering superior connectivity to residents and businesses in Somerset County at highly competitive prices, backed by an organization committed to craftsmanship and service.”

Along with multiple broadband options, Spectrum will offer its full suite of services, including Spectrum TV®, Spectrum Mobile and Spectrum Voice®

“On behalf of the County Commissioners of Somerset County, we are elated for the opportunity of the residents of Somerset County to receive internet services,” said Craig Mathies, President, Somerset County Commissioners. “We extend our humble appreciation for the services Spectrum will provide.”
