XENIA, Ohio — Spectrum, the largest and fastest-growing rural internet provider in the country, today announced significant progress in its effort to expand high-speed fiber broadband access for rural communities across 11 counties in Western Ohio, to connect more than 20,000 homes and small businesses with its new, state-of-the-art fiber broadband network.
Spectrum’s multi-year rural construction initiative is driven by more than $7 billion in private investment from Spectrum and will ultimately add an additional 100,000+ miles of fiber broadband network infrastructure to deliver symmetrical and multi-gigabit speeds to more than 1.7 million new locations across the country.
“This past year represented a significant step forward in our commitment to rural connectivity in Ohio,” said Jesse Femyer, Area Vice President for Spectrum’s Midwest Central service area. “Our teams continue to refine our rural construction process, learning from every buildout and accelerating the pace at which we connect homes and businesses. The impact is clear – communities that were once overlooked now have access to infrastructure that will serve them for decades.”
Spectrum expanded its network to unserved and underserved areas in Auglaize, Champaign, Clark, Clinton, Darke, Fayette, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby Counties, equipping residents and small businesses with new connectivity options and gigabit speeds. A majority of the expansion projects are already complete, with additional activations coming through the end of 2026.
Across these 11 Western Ohio counties, Spectrum’s buildout was supported by more than $100 million in combined investment, including the company’s private funding, grants from the Ohio Residential Broadband Expansion Grant Program, the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF), and local sources.
“Families and businesses need access to reliable, fast internet and mobile service to learn, work, and connect in our digital world,” said Gov. Mike DeWine. “Spectrum’s commitment to delivering quality connectivity across Ohio is bringing more and more rural areas into the digital age, and I’m grateful for their dedication to serving our state.”
Gov. DeWine, the Dayton Development Coalition and Spectrum recently celebrated broadband expansion progress with an event to discuss the importance of reliable connectivity to create career opportunities for Ohioans.
“I was proud to lead the effort to found Broadband Ohio as Lt. Governor – an effort that is delivering high-speed connectivity to 240,000 households across Ohio who were previously left behind,” said Sen. Jon Husted. “I’m grateful to Spectrum for their partnership and for all our private sector partners who have supported the work of delivering for all Ohioans.”
The company also expanded its physical presence in rural communities by hiring more technicians and getting more trucks on the road in these areas to uphold Spectrum’s industry-leading Customer Commitment that features same-day installations and service calls to address issues within hours of being reported.
Fiber broadband delivers faster speeds, increased reliability, and capacity to support growing digital demands, from telehealth and precision agriculture to online learning and remote work. With new construction milestones achieved, residents and businesses in newly served areas can now access gigabit broadband services designed to support economic growth and improve quality of life.
“I’ve lived in Clark County nearly all my life, and having partners like Spectrum keep our communities moving forward,” said Clark County Commissioner Charles Patterson. “Their broadband network investments are bringing futureproof infrastructure across the county that will keep us connected to high-speed internet for the long-haul.”
