Spectrum Enterprise Demonstrates an Innovative, Live Event Experience in its MEF 3.0 Proof of Concept
Share Article:
STAMFORD, Conn. – In a proof of concept (PoC) at the MEF 3.0 PoC Showcase, Spectrum Enterprise, a part of Charter Communications, Inc., demonstrated a differentiated viewing experience for spectators at live events.1 In collaboration with Spectrum Enterprise, Spectrum’s Wireless Research & Development team worked with a Texas minor league baseball team at its stadium to develop a PoC that redefines how a live sporting event can be experienced by fans from inside and outside of a sports venue. This PoC enables fans to watch the game the way they want by selecting viewing preferences that drive live viewing angles and unique replays.
“Spectrum Enterprise is re-imagining the live event experience by delivering personalized, real-time content to fans wherever they are watching the game,” said Satya Parimi, Group Vice President, Products, Spectrum Enterprise. “By leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) at the stadium edge and combining it with MEF’s emerging working draft 84 on network slicing, the PoC shows how video content can be autonomously captured, produced and delivered for an immersive fan experience.”
The Spectrum Enterprise PoC leverages a combination of existing and emerging MEF standards and the latest in video technology with an artificial intelligence director utilizing deep learning at the edge to track and analyze the raw game footage. Fans can customize content from a live event based on their personal preferences and location, from watching the game from a different angle in the stadium to tracking a favorite player in the game, along with a range of replay options. In addition, the Spectrum Enterprise PoC explores advances in MEF standards to distribute video over the Spectrum Enterprise MEF 3.0 Certified Network.
The Spectrum Enterprise PoC has been developed by integrating software, networks and platforms from three technology partners:
- Adva – Adva VNF software (Adva Edge Cloud and Adva Ensemble Connector) enables and manages the Universal CPEs at the client premises.
- Equinix – Equinix Metal supports AI/ML with dynamic compute and storage in its 5G PoC center.
- Paragon Active Assurance by Juniper Networks – Virtual active test agents from Paragon Active Assurance (previously known as Netrounds) are deployed to validate the initial service instantiation and monitor on-going health.
MEF is an industry forum empowering enterprises to transform digitally with standard services and application programming interfaces (APIs) for network, cloud, and technology providers.
“We are excited to have Spectrum Enterprise showcase a groundbreaking demonstration on how the company is changing the overall viewing experience at a live event,” said Daniel Bar-Lev, VP Strategic Programs; Business Development, EMEA, MEF. “A hallmark of industry innovation, the MEF 3.0 Proof of Concept Program provides the seeds of new, collaborative work within MEF, and validates the real-world use cases behind MEF standards and the broader industry.”
