Advancing assistive technology creates new ways for people living with disabilities to participate in an increasingly digital world. Today, Spectrum’s wide-ranging accessibility efforts earned the Company a place on the “Accessibility 100,” a new list from Forbes recognizing the biggest innovators and impact-makers in the field — from juggernaut tech companies to small entrepreneurs.

“Spectrum’s work is rooted in the knowledge that connection is important to everyone,” said Steve Raymond, VP, Accessibility. “Being part of Forbes’ ‘Accessibility 100’ is a tremendous honor that celebrates our efforts to deliver products built, developed and tested for accessibility.”

That work begins with Spectrum’s Accessibility Center of Excellence, an award-winning team that creates a culture of accessibility and inclusivity for both customers and employees. More than half of its employees are people with disabilities and  they are best positioned to make sure the Company creates products and user experiences that work for everyone.

The team developed and launched the Spectrum Access App, which provides individuals with visual and auditory impairments audio description and closed captioning for  more than  800 movie and TV titles. This entertainment resource is available for free to everyone in the United States regardless of their service provider. After downloading the app, users choose a title to sync with their TV, download that title’s audio description or closed captioning track and sync it with their TV using the microphone on their mobile device.

Spectrum also infuses accessibility into its customer service. The Company’s El Paso, Texas-based Disability Support team is a dedicated group of specially trained agents that provides 24/7 phone and chat support for customers with vision, hearing and cognitive disabilities.

Today’s honor from Forbes is the latest in Spectrum’s long line of accessibility recognition, including the American Foundation for the Blind’s 2023 Hellen Keller Achievement Award.
