RED HOOK, N.Y. — Charter Communications, Inc. has announced the completion of an additional 3.1 miles of network connectivity for residents and small businesses in Red Hook, N.Y. This project will immediately provide broadband connection for 35 homes on Lasher and Moores Roads, meeting the connectivity needs of the community. The project, which cost just over $141,000, was fully funded by Charter.
"This investment will help close the digital divide in the Town of Red Hook and will bring gigabit broadband connectivity to these residents," said Mark Fitchett, Regional Vice President of Operations at Charter, which operates under the Spectrum brand. "Charter remains committed to extending its network to underserved areas, allowing residents to access reliable and high-speed internet for entertainment, remote work, telehealth, and other vital functions."
Residents and businesses in the newly connected area will now have access to broadband speeds of up to 1 Gbps, along with money-saving mobile options and a wide selection of 85,000 On Demand choices. This project is part of Charter's ongoing collaboration with various counties in New York State, as the company continues to improve connectivity in rural areas.
“Red Hook has worked diligently to partner with Spectrum to provide reliable internet services to previously underserved parts of the community,” said Red Hook Town Supervisor Robert McKeon. “Working collaboratively over the last few years, we’re very close to ensuring that all of our homeowners and businesses have this as an option.”
The project took about eight months to complete, following pole permitting and work with local utility company. The partnership with Red Hook is in line with Spectrum's ongoing collaboration with various Counties in the State, aimed at connecting residents of New York. Notably, Spectrum has already partnered with Greene County and other neighboring areas, as part of their extensive initiative to connect over unserved households throughout the state.
Senator Michelle Hinchey said, "In today's world, internet access is a necessity, and it is our collective responsibility, shared by our state, towns, and internet service providers, to ensure that this needed service is brought to rural communities that have been left behind. Charter's investment in the Town of Red Hook represents a significant milestone in expanding local broadband connectivity, one that will have an immediate impact on the lives of people and families living and doing business along Lasher and Moores Roads. No matter where you choose to live, access to the internet should not be a barrier to success, and I thank Charter and the Town of Red Hook for their leadership in this endeavor.”
Homeowners, like Steven Lucash, look forward to the new connection. “Thank you, Spectrum and Red Hook, for providing reliable service at a lower price than the satellite service I only had access to, previously. Now, my wife can do her filings for her job as a nurse from home without dropped calls and service because the weather does not interrupt the signal. Spectrum’s installation workers were courteous and professional. We are happy to have the fiber optic cable they provided.”
