PORTLAND, Maine – Charter Communications, Inc. today announced an investment of more than $3 million in construction projects in Rural Maine to bring its advanced fiber-optic network and full suite of Spectrum services to more than 1,500 area homes.

“We are looking forward to bringing our advanced Spectrum services to Etna, Newburgh and Swanville residents and to continue to expand access to broadband in rural communities,” said Paul Schonewolf, Spectrum Area Vice President. “Charter has a long-standing history of investing in our networks to better serve our customers, and that investment strategy enables us to deliver fast and reliable broadband speeds to more people in more places.”

“We applaud this substantial investment in construction projects in Etna, Newburgh, and Swanville, which will offer new employment opportunities to hardworking Mainers and help improve access to high-speed internet and other services for more than 1,500 households," said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “The pandemic has brought a renewed urgency to ensuring Mainers are able to keep in touch with their loved ones, access online health services, work from home, and continue their education.”

“High speed internet is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity. I thank Charter Communications for its investment, which will connect students to online learning, seniors to home health care, and businesses to markets across the globe,” said Governor Janet Mills. “The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us just how important being able to connect to other people and other places is to our daily life. My Administration will continue to work with partners like Charter to strengthen that connectivity by expanding high speed internet access in Maine.”

Charter expects the latest expansion of services to be completed by late summer 2021. The projects ensure more local homes, and businesses will gain access to the company’s full suite of Spectrum Internet®, Spectrum TV®, Spectrum Mobile and Spectrum Voice® services. Spectrum Internet offers starting speeds of 100 Mbps and connections up to 1 gigabit per second — with no modem fees, data caps or contracts.

Charter is continually extending its high-speed network to additional residential and business locations, as part of a commitment to expand access to broadband to unserved and underserved communities throughout its 41-state service area.

Charter serves over 426,000 customers in 290 communities, and employs nearly 700 Mainers across the state. Last year, we invested more than $55 million in technology and infrastructure in Maine, and expanded the reach of our network to an additional 7,000 homes and businesses.
