ST. LOUIS & REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 2001--

Nation's Fourth-largest Cable Operator Offers Consumers Compelling

Video-on-demand Entertainment in 7th, 22nd Largest TV Markets

Charter Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:CHTR), the nation's fourth-largest cable operator, and DIVA, the nation's leading provider of video-on-demand (VOD) solutions for the cable television industry, today announced the commercial launch of DIVA's VOD service to cable customers in Charter's Fort Worth, Texas, and St. Louis, Mo. systems, the 7th and 22nd largest TV markets in the United States, respectively. Together, the two markets comprise more than 665,000 basic customers with more than 160,000 digital customers ready to receive the VOD service. With these new systems, Charter and DIVA have commercially launched VOD service to consumers in five markets nationwide, including Los Angeles and Atlanta.

Customers in Fort Worth and St. Louis now have immediate, affordable access to hundreds of new programs -- new release movies, classic and independent films, special interest programs, children's videos and cable programming such as Discovery Channel and ESPN -- available anytime, with VCR-like capabilities such as pause, fast-forward and rewind. VOD gives consumers full control over their viewing experience by allowing them to easily order any program, anytime, through their remote control -- with no late fees or trips to the video store.

The service, which runs on both the Scientific-Atlanta Explorer and Motorola DCT-2000 digital set-top boxes, is not available through a satellite provider due to the unique, two-way high-speed nature of cable.

"DIVA makes VOD work simply and swiftly, enabling us to quickly roll out this exciting service to all of our customers," said Steve Silva, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development & Technology for Charter. "Now our customers can enjoy more control over their total viewing experience, with all the convenience of a VCR combined with superior digital cable picture quality. Charter is dedicated to bringing our customers the most advanced home entertainment options, and DIVA allows us to deliver these services affordably, so we pass the benefits on to our customers."

"Together, Charter and DIVA continue to build and strengthen a successful relationship, underscoring video-on-demand's results for Charter and DIVA's ability to deliver them," said Henk Hanselaar, DIVA's President and CEO. "This is another example of how DIVA's phenomenal support enables our customers to continue their aggressive rollouts of video-on-demand."

Through Charter and other cable providers, DIVA's solutions are being deployed in 26 markets, including four of the top 10 television markets. More than 60 percent of the commercially deployed VOD markets run on DIVA's solutions. DIVA receives content from some of the largest Hollywood studios, including Warner Brothers, Universal, New Line Cinema, and Dreamworks.
