Wisconsin Dairy Farm Revolutionizes Cow Health Monitoring With Spectrum Connection
Spectrum's Connectivity Advances Agriculture Businesses Across its Footprint

The rolling hills of Mighty Grand Dairy Farm, one of Wisconsin’s largest multi-generational, family-owned and operated dairies, are home to 575 Holstein cows that wear collars equipped with advanced fitness trackers. Using high-speed Spectrum Internet, the health and wellness of the cows are measured in real-time, revolutionizing herd health monitoring and enhancing milk production.
The farm, which provides milk for Italian cheesemaking, was one of the first operations to be connected by Spectrum through a broadband expansion project, completed in 2024. Now, nearly 3,500 residents and small businesses have access to high-speed broadband across Northern Kenosha and Southern Racine counties. The project is part of Spectrum’s broader, multi-year Rural Construction Initiative, driven by an approximately $7 billion private investment from Spectrum to ultimately connect approximately 1.75 million new homes and small businesses across the country.
Dave Daniels, Co-Owner of Mighty Grand Dairy Farm“Before we had reliable internet, we were always a step behind when it came to the health of our herd. Now, we can catch problems early and make data-driven decisions that keep our cows healthier and more productive.”
The fitness trackers, worn around the cow’s necks, monitor their activity levels, eating habits, temperature, stomach movement and overall health. The data is transmitted to the farm’s central computer system, where it is analyzed to ensure each cow is in peak condition. For Dave, this has meant earlier detection of health issues, personalized care for each animal and a notable increase in milk production.
The farm, in the family since Dave’s grandfather purchased it in 1933, is now ready for the future.
Connecting Mighty Grand Dairy Farm
When Mighty Grand Dairy Farm was connected with Spectrum fiber, Katie Bain, an account executive with Spectrum Business, worked closely with Dave to learn his operational goals to deliver the farm’s connectivity needs.
“Growing up in a rural community myself, I know what it’s like to not be connected,” said Katie. “The fitness tracking technology is just one great example of the positive impact high-speed broadband is having on this business.”
In addition to helping monitor happy and healthy cows, Dave says the farm’s operations now run more efficiently. He can download large files for machinery repairs, make video calls without signal interruption and connect with faster speeds than his former provider.
“We use a vast amount of technology to manage our herd, and we need a full-capacity network to accomplish this,” said Dave. “People in rural areas need reliable, fast internet. Spectrum has been a reliable partner at a reasonable cost and the technician who managed our install was helpful.”
