New York Brewery Taps Into History With Spectrum Business
Share Article:
Roe Jan Brewing Co. is rooted in history and community, people and places. Owners Kathy and Steve Bluestone named the business after a small river that runs through Hillsdale, New York, where they make and sell craft beer in a restored historic building.
Hillsdale is home to about 1,800 people, making Roe Jan Brewing both a great place to grab a beer and an important contributor to the local economy. Over the lifetime of its business, the brewery has employed more than 140 people, and its upper levels contain seven long-term rental units, a welcome addition to Hillsdale’s sparse housing market. Those units are wired for Spectrum’s internet, video and voice services, offering residents access to the endless opportunity connectivity provides.
The Bluestones have created a community gathering place where residents can socialize with their neighbors while sharing a good meal or enjoying live music. In a digital world, even a hub of human connection like Roe Jan is powered by technology. That’s where Spectrum Business comes in.
Fast, reliable connectivity fuels much of Roe Jan’s operations – from its point-of-sale and alarm systems to the chiller for walk-in coolers and record keeping. “Spectrum Business is critical to our survival,” said Steve. “It’s remarkable how many things it touches.”
The partnership proved especially critical when the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the brewery to switch to online takeout orders just six weeks after it opened. "Spectrum internet allowed us to keep going when everything else was uncertain," Kathy recalls. “This adaptability not only kept the business afloat but also strengthened our ties with the community.”
Adding Spectrum’s Video service in the past year has grown the brewery’s customer base and enhanced their experience by turning its televisions into a destination for sports fans. entertainment and marketing tools.
"Running a small business means facing the unexpected every day,” said Tony Borey, Account Executive, Spectrum Business. “We’re more than a service provider – we’re a genuine partner so entrepreneurs like Kathy and Steve can focus on creating great experiences for their guests.”
