Charter Names Kip Simonson Vice President of Sales and Marketing

ST. LOUIS, Apr 2, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The appointment of Kip Simonson to Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Charter Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:CHTR) was announced today by Carl Vogel, President and Chief Executive Officer. In this capacity, Mr. Simonson will have overall responsibility for all areas of sales and marketing, including pricing, distribution, branding and bundling strategy, creative services, research and analysis, and all product management. He will report to Margaret A. "Maggie" Bellville, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
In making the announcement, Mr. Vogel said, "We continue to recruit top talent. Kip Simonson's success in creating and implementing marketing strategy related to bundling advanced video and data products will serve us well as he directs a company-wide sales and marketing strategy. Mr. Simonson was previously Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Cox Communications, Inc. in Orange County, California, where he was responsible for driving residential market penetration of traditional cable and advanced broadband services through strategic sales and marketing initiatives. Previous to his career at Cox, he directed all sales and marketing operations for the Southwest Region of Century Communications, Inc., in Santa Monica, California. Before he began his career in cable television, Mr. Simonson spent eight years with Airtouch (formerly Verizon) Cellular, ending his career there as Director of Sales for the Los Angeles area.
A graduate of Pacific Christian College in Fullerton, California with a B.S. in Business Management, Mr. Simonson's marketing and sales teams at Cox in Orange County were recipients of multiple CTAM Golden Palm Awards, a CTAM Mark Award, as well as numerous Cox Achievement Awards for Greatest Growth in basic, digital, data and telephone customers.
Mr. Vogel observed that Mr. Simonson's appointment is part of Charter's already announced changes to the Company's operating structure involving the recruitment of highly qualified individuals including Ms. Bellville, a former Executive Vice President of Operations for Atlanta-based Cox Communications, Inc., who has overall responsibility for all Charter field operations, as well as marketing, programming, advertising sales, and customer care; Sue Hamilton, formerly Vice President of Programming at AT&T Broadband, L.L.C., appointed Senior Vice President of Programming; Mike Haislip, formerly President of Armstrong Cable, named Senior Vice President of Operations for the Company's Great Lakes Division; Chuck McElroy, formerly Vice President and General Manager of Cox Business Services, a unit of Cox Communications, Inc., appointed Senior Vice President of Operations for its Southeast Division; and Lee Clayton, formerly Managing Director/Executive Vice President of United Pan-Europe Communications, nv (UPC), named Senior Vice President of Operations for Charter's Midwest Division; and the retainment of talented employees like Wayne Davis, recently promoted to Senior Vice President of Engineering and Technical Operations.
