Several times a week, Barb meets her friends at St. Louis Arc, a nonprofit that helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities engage in a variety of activities using innovative technology. St. Louis Arc has built a dedicated tech room and purchased specialized equipment with support from multiple Spectrum Digital Education grants over the past several years.
“The partnership with Spectrum has really been life changing for the people we support,” said Megan Favazza, Vice President of Adult Day and Employment Services. “Tapping into this technology helps them become more independent and allows them to stay connected and thrive in our community and beyond.”
Program participants like Barb have access to adaptive technology, including larger keyboards and educational software geared toward their unique needs. They video chat with family and friends, share updates on social media, and use resources related to memory care, physical fitness and other vital activities.
“Connectivity is the foundation for strong and thriving communities, including helping adults stay engaged in our digital world,” said Rahman Khan, Group Vice President, Community Impact. “By supporting nonprofits such as St. Louis Arc, we are accessing the unlimited power that connectivity holds, and we’re helping create opportunities and driving positive change within the communities we serve.”
Since 2017, Spectrum has provided St. Louis Arc with $74,000 in funding and in-kind support and more than $11 million overall in Spectrum Digital Education grants to nonprofits in 23 states plus the District of Columbia that expand community access to digital tools and resources.
