Pre-Storm Preparations and Restoration

Quickly restoring services after a major hurricane requires a significant amount of planning, preparation and operational logistics. Before Hurricane Milton, Spectrum technicians and engineers are staged and positioned in strategic locations. Once the storm passes, and the impacted areas are declared safe to enter, Spectrum technicians begin assessing damage and prioritizing repairs to the network. Spectrum coordinates with the local power companies, as technicians need power to be restored before they can begin to make many necessary repairs. Often, services are restored for Spectrum customers as soon as power comes back online.

All Hands On Deck — Spectrum takes an all-hands-on-deck approach, ensuring employees are on standby for quick mobilization during and after the hurricane. The company establishes a central “war room” where regional leadership and experts gather information and make real-time decisions. More than one thousand Spectrum technicians and engineers, including teams from other parts of the country, are positioned to begin working to restore service across the Company’s Florida service areas.

Network Monitoring — Spectrum’s Regional Operations Center (ROC) operates around the clock, providing real-time monitoring of network performance. This state-of-the-art hub can identify issues even before customers notice disruptions. In a severe weather event, the ROC pinpoints impacted areas, ensuring rapid dispatch of repair teams.

Inventory and Equipment Readiness — Before every new storm season, we pre-stock telecommunications equipment, tools, and portable power generators at our regional supply chain facilities. Once a storm’s path is identified, supplies and equipment are quickly deployed to staging locations near the anticipated impact zones.

Coordination with Local and State Governments — Spectrum will collaborate with the Florida state and local government agencies, to ensure a unified response and communications. We coordinate with the Governor’s response teams to facilitate and expedite service restoration.
