LOS ANGELES – Spectrum News 1 today announced the launch of “LA Stories Unfiltered,” a weekly podcast hosted by award-winning journalist Giselle Fernandez. The new podcast is a companion program to Fernandez’s Emmy Award-winning weekly series, “LA Stories,” going beyond the on-air interview to provide a more intimate look at the people who impact Southern California. Debuting March 8, the first episode features a heartfelt conversation with singer and classically-trained flamenco guitarist Charo on her professional success and personal heartaches.
“There are so many inspiring stories of people who are reshaping our community and empowering change, and it’s a privilege to be able to bring their stories to Californians every week on 'LA Stories,'” said Fernandez. “Those conversations don’t stop when the camera is turned off, and this podcast will offer another avenue for our viewers, and listeners, to go beyond the interview to hear the inner view, and get a deeper look at these LA stories.”
“LA Stories” is a weekly documentary series hosted by Fernandez that features one-on-one interviews with Southern California change agents. With extended versions of Fernandez’s weekly conversations, the podcast version of “LA Stories” will feature guests ranging from politicians and activists, to actors, musicians, and artists, and will help listeners connect with their community more deeply. Past guests have included California Governor Gavin Newsom; Award-winning actress and choreographer Debbie Allen; real-estate developer Rick Caruso; Black Lives Matter co-founder Melina Abdullah; L.A. County Fire Department Air Operations Crew Chief Mike Dubron; and actor Danny Trejo.
In the debut podcast episode, Charo talks in depth about how she coined the phrase "Cuchi Cuchi,” and the struggles she faced with being taken seriously as a guitarist. She also discusses the tremendous grief she still feels after losing her husband to suicide and how she plans to use her platform to spread joy and bring positivity back into the world.
Spectrum Networks’ podcast strategy, coupled with the launch of the Spectrum News App earlier this year, is part of its investment to strengthen the connection with local communities by giving their audience more access to read, watch, or listen to local news anytime, anywhere. “LA Stories Unfiltered” is the most recent addition to Spectrum Networks’ line-up of local podcasts hosted by reporters and anchors: “To The Point Already”; “Central Florida: Beyond the Soundbite”; “SoCal in 17”; “Tying it Together with Tim Boyum”; “You Decide with Errol Louis”; “Crosstown with Pat Kiernan”; and “Off Topic/On Politics.”
Podcast episodes will drop on Mondays, and will be available via SpectrumNews1.com/LAstories, the Spectrum News App, and on all major podcast apps including Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify.
