BISHOP, Ga. — Spectrum representatives joined elected officials and community members to commemorate Spectrum Internet, Mobile, TV and Voice services now available to homes, small businesses and county facilities including Oconee County Animal Services, in Oconee County, Georgia. Spectrum’s fiber-optic network construction occurring in Oconee County is the result of the federal Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF), a partnership with Oconee County and Spectrum investment that will ultimately bring broadband access to more than 3,100 homes and small businesses.

“Helping small businesses grow has always been a priority for me — and access to dependable internet has been a hurdle for many. It’s also a significant challenge for students needing to connect to the internet to complete schoolwork,” said state Rep. Houston Gaines. “Thanks to Spectrum's high-speed internet expansion thousands of Oconee County residents, small businesses, students, and homeowners who previously lacked access will now have high-speed internet connection.”

To date, Spectrum has extended its network more than 288 miles, expanding broadband connectivity to more than 2,900 residents and small businesses in Oconee County, unlocking education, healthcare and other economic development opportunities.

There are many rural Oconee County residents that have been disadvantaged without access to reliable, high-speed internet at home,” said Commissioner John Daniell. “Today, we’re celebrating a change – one that brings connectivity and opportunity to the doorsteps of our most rural community members thanks to Spectrum’s partnership with the county to expand its broadband network here.”

Once buildout is complete, the entire suite of Spectrum Internet, Mobile, TV and Voice services will be available to more than 3,100 homes and small businesses in the county.

“Our employees are bringing a vital service to Oconee County,” said Jamie Bellemare, Spectrum Area Vice President. “We remain committed to rural expansion and are providing these communities superior connectivity at highly competitive prices, backed by a team of skilled local technicians.”

Connecting Pets to Owners

Oconee County Animal Services fell within Spectrum’s network expansion area and has been connected as a result of Spectrum’s partnership with the County. With high-speed broadband, pet adoptions can be expedited, and lost pets are more quickly reunited with their families.

"Access to Spectrum’s fast and reliable broadband network has definitely streamlined workflows and significantly improved productivity for all of our processes in each database we utilize,” said Crystal Berisko, Oconee County Animal Services Manager. “The difference is night and day - ultimately, it’s benefitting area residents that want to adopt a pet and is helping lost pets find their way home.”

As part of the broadband celebration during National Pet ID Week, Spectrum made a $1,000 donation to the Friends of the Oconee County Animal Shelter. The money will be used towards the shelter’s microchipping program.
