Key Takeaways:

  • Two Field Operations leaders, Alex Gonzalez and Jon Soseman, used Spectrum’s tuition-free education benefit and leadership training programs to advance their careers.
  • Career development programs help Spectrum provide customers with consistent, high-quality service.

Alex Gonzalez joined the industry as a front-line technician more than 20 years ago. Since then, his constant hunger for knowledge and more responsibility have driven his career progression, and today he’s Spectrum’s Area Vice President for the Greenville-Tennessee Management Area.

Alex credits his drive to his family’s emphasis on hard work, a personal belief in constant improvement and the lessons he learned in the National Guard.

And he still wants more. Alex is currently earning his degree in organizational leadership through Spectrum’s tuition-free Education Benefit, which helps employees keep learning without putting their careers on hold.

For Alex, leadership means using his story to inspire the members of his team to use the career progression opportunities available to them. “I tell every technician: Progress, progress, progress – don’t stay stagnant,” he said.

Developing Future Leaders

During Jon Soseman’s nearly three decades with Spectrum, he’s worked his way up through a wide range of Field Operations roles. After starting as an installer in Garden Grove, California, he’s now the Company’s Area Vice President of the Sierra Nevada Management Area, where he leads field service, plant maintenance and construction efforts.

A key part of Jon’s progression was the Lead Engage Accelerate Progress (LEAP) Program, which prepares eligible Field Operations employees for leadership roles. “LEAP jumpstarted my career in a lot of ways,” Jon said. “From structured learning to mentorship, participating in the program gave me the skills I needed to take the next step. Opportunities like that don’t exist everywhere.”

Happier Employees, Happier Customers

Spectrum employees aren’t the only ones who benefit from the Company’s career progression opportunities. Customers feel them, too, in the form of the improved service that tenured employees provide.

“Creating advancement opportunities is a top priority for us because it makes our employees better, which ultimately benefits our customers in the form of truly exceptional service and high-quality products that make their lives better,” said Tom Monaghan, Spectrum’s Executive Vice President, Field Operations. “Alex and Jon are great examples of how taking advantage of those opportunities can help you build a lasting career with Spectrum.”

Spectrum’s investment in career progression and professional development opportunities helps its 92,000 U.S.-based employees build lasting careers and has earned the Company national recognition as an Employer of Choice.
