Portland, Ore. - May 26, 2004 - nCUBE Corporation today announced that Charter Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHTR) selected its digital advertising system and on-demand platform for the country's first all digital network in Long Beach, California. nCUBE has been powering video-on-demand (VOD) services in Long Beach since the market launched in August 2001. To date, Charter has deployed 15 advertising markets and 15 on-demand markets with nCUBE.

Charter activated its all-digital network in January. The service includes the two key elements that define an all-digital system -- a digital advertising system, provided by nCUBE, and a digital compression system, provided by Harmonic, which encodes the program line-up. Long Beach is a member of Adlink, the Los Angeles Digital Cable Interconnect, which also deploys nCUBE's Digital Ad Insertion System.

"We chose to aggressively roll out an all-digital platform because we were confident of the operational efficiencies it would create, as well as providing significant cost savings and flexibility over the long run," said Wayne Davis, Charter senior vice president of engineering and technical operations. "The surprise was how easy the migration was to accomplish. nCUBE has been a trusted and reliable partner in both digital advertising and on-demand so we knew we were in experienced hands as we made this transition to the all-digital platform."

"We applaud Charter's pioneering work in Long Beach," said Michael Pohl, president and chief executive officer, nCUBE Corporation. "Our long-term partnership has resulted in a number of innovative industry initiatives, from delivering VOD via Gigabit Ethernet to now deploying digital advertising and on-demand programming on the country's first all-digital platform.”

nCUBE's digital advertising system provides operators the proven bridge for transitioning from standard definition (SD) to an all-digital and high definition (HD) HD platform without service disruption or expensive forklifts to the infrastructure. The single-server solution is capable of providing digital or analog, digital-to-SD, digital-to-HD and fits seamlessly into current operations and analog infrastructures, offering a smooth migration path to the latest digital television technology. As the industry leader, nCUBE supports 80 percent of all digital channels operating worldwide. nCUBE provides more than 15,000 digital and analog channels deployed in more than 740 cable headends operating worldwide.

The company's on-demand video server provides unmatched storage and delivery capability that grows with consumer demand without duplicating content or hidden storage costs. nCUBE simplifies the deployment of on-demand content with the most powerful, comprehensive set of on-demand management and technical business tools. Through its nABLE back office management software and the on-demand server's ability to add storage and capacity as content offerings and subscriber bases expand, nCUBE can grow with an operator through all phases of its on-demand deployment.
