National Rebuilding Month work in Atlanta/Rebuilding Together
April is National Rebuilding Month for Charter our Community’s inaugural partner Rebuilding Together. Charter Communications is proud to be part of this month-long call to service which started more than 40 years ago and has evolved into a year-round campaign of neighbors helping neighbors.
The original idea for National Rebuilding Month actually traces back to April 1973 in Midland, Texas. Realizing the growing need of homes in disrepair and homeowners not able to afford critical home repairs, a small group of people volunteered their time and skills to rehabilitate their neighbors’ homes.
It’s Christmastime… in April
This group of committed citizens was originally named “Christmas in April” to represent the spirit of giving during their month of service. Eventually, the idea spread beyond providing service every April to bringing together partners to help their neighbors year-round. In 1988, “Christmas in April” became “Rebuilding Together” and the organization opened its national headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Today, to honor Rebuilding Together’s history, April is known as National Rebuilding Month, culminating with National Rebuilding Day held on the last Saturday in April – this year, it’s April 25. Every year, nearly 50,000 volunteers donate time on more than 1,800 projects led by Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country.

Charter our Community National Rebuilding Month Events
Charter Communications is directly involved in three National Rebuilding Month projects through Charter our Community. More than 100 Charter employees and family members will spend the day helping neighbors by rebuilding homes for low-income residents in Worcester, Massachusetts (April 18) and Long Beach, California, Sheboygan, Wisconsin (both on April 25).
These National Rebuilding Month events continue the legacy started more than 40 years ago by a group of dedicated Texas neighbors. What was once Christmas in April is now an opportunity for neighbors all over the country to help ensure fellow homeowners live in safe and healthy homes.
