Spectrum News #1 News Network Among Spectrum Customers in April Averaging 2.5 Million Daily Viewing Households, More Than CNN, Fox News and MSNBC Combined

Spectrum News App Reached 2 Million Total Downloads in April

STAMFORD, Conn. — Spectrum News averaged more than 2.5 million daily viewing households across its 12-state local news footprint in April, besting CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC as the most-watched news network by Spectrum customers in California, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Missouri, Texas and Wisconsin.* Additionally, the Spectrum News App reached a total of 2 million downloads with 348,000 unique visitors in April.

Raleigh (28%), Austin (10%) and Charlotte (4%) had the largest month-over-month increases in viewership as compared to CNN, and local broadcast stations ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC, according to Nielsen research.**

Regionally, breaking news coverage in New York City and a live debate in North Carolina drove viewership increases in April. Highlights include:

  • In North Carolina, Spectrum News 1s live U.S. Senate primary debate between Republican candidates Marjorie Eastman, Pat McCrory and Mark Walker on April 20, recorded significant increases in viewership during the 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET hour as compared to the previous 30 day-average. Greensboro (20%) had the largest increase, followed by Wilmington (19%), Charlotte (17%), Asheville (16%), and Raleigh (13%).
  • In New York City, Spectrum News NY1 ranked as the most-watched news network among Spectrum customers on April 12 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET during its live breaking news coverage of the Brooklyn subway shooting and Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin’s resignation. During that time period, NY1 recorded a 62% increase in viewership as compared to the previous 30-day average.
  • Spectrum Noticias NY1’s breaking news coverage of the Brooklyn subway shooting and New York’s Lieutenant Governor’s resignation from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET on April 12 drove a significant increase in viewership of 112%, more than twice the viewership average as compared to the previous 30-days during that time period. From 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET, Noticias saw higher increases in viewership than Telemundo (21%) and Univision (unchanged).
  • Similarly, on the Spectrum News App in New York City, the live feed of NY1’s wall-to-wall breaking news coverage was streamed for 1,100 total hours, the most livestreamed hours watched of any day since launch in July of 2020.

*Spectrum set-top box data is sourced from all markets where Spectrum News has distribution, and are based on a minimum threshold of 5 consecutive minutes of viewing on one station to count as a viewing HH.

**Nielsen metrics are based on Live+SD, Total Day household impressions in the following DMAs: Austin, Buffalo, Charlotte, Cleveland, Columbus, Greensboro, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Raleigh, San Antonio and Tampa.
