“During the pandemic, I was baking at home and giving bread away, and people offered to pay me for it, which I thought was weird,” said Julian Loue, Rise Bakery’s founder and owner, as he spoke in his bustling bakery in the heart of West Greenville’s vibrant arts district. “So, I built out a micro-bakery in my garage and sold bread from my porch. I did a year of farmer’s markets and then found a space to build a bakery, and here we are.”

When we do things because we are driven by our passions, and not by necessity, the results will often be imbued with an undeniable sense of joy. Step through the front door of Rise Bakery and you’re greeted not only by the delicious aromas of a bakery but by a palpable sense of happiness. 

For Julian, being an artisanal baker in our modern times presents a bit of a paradox. He’s working with materials and techniques that date back to the Parisan boulangeries he visited in France, yet he’s just as reliant on seamless connectivity as any other small business owner – and that’s why he chose Spectrum Business. 

“Even though our techniques are very ancient, we rely just as heavily on modern technology,” Julian said. “Our point-of-sale system, our websites, the remote sensor I have in my cooler that tells me if my bread is about to over-proof – it’s all reliant on the internet. With Spectrum, I don’t have to think about my connectivity. It’s always there. I can’t even count how many devices we have connected to the internet at any given time, and we rely very heavily on each and every one of them. I know that when I need something, I don’t have to worry about my connection being stable or secure.”
