Charter Names John Tory to Company Board of Directors

ST. LOUIS, Dec 28, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Charter Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:CHTR) today announced the appointment of John H. Tory, President and CEO of Rogers Cable Inc., Toronto, Ontario, to the company's board of directors.

Mr. Tory was named president and chief executive officer of Rogers Cable Inc. in April 1999. Rogers is Canada's largest broadband cable operator with 2.3 million customers. The company also operates more than 250 Rogers Video stores and is one of Canada's fastest-growing Internet service providers. Prior to his current position, Mr. Tory was CEO of Rogers Media Inc. Before joining Rogers, he was a corporate law partner at Tory, Tory DesLauriers & Binnington, one of Canada's largest law firms.

For almost four years in the early 1980s, Mr. Tory was Principal Secretary to the Premier of Ontario and Associate Secretary of the Ontario Cabinet. He has been extensively involved in the political process for almost 30 years, and has served as a volunteer advisor to many different political leaders.

Mr. Tory is a director of a number of Canadian companies, including Rogers Cable Inc., Rogers Media Inc., Cara Operations Limited, Enbridge Consumers Gas, the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club and Outdoor Life Canada Network. He is a member of the Governing Council and Business Board of the University of Toronto. He also was volunteer chairman of the Canadian Football League from 1991 to 2000 and served as its commissioner from 1996 to 2000.

Mr. Tory was educated at University of Toronto Schools (UTS), Trinity College (University of Toronto) and Osgoode Hall Law School. He joins a Charter board that is currently comprised of Chairman Paul Allen; Vice Chairman Marc Nathanson, former chairman and CEO of Falcon Cable; and Directors Ronald Nelson, chief operating officer of DreamWorks; Nancy Peretsman, managing director and executive vice president of Allen & Company; William Savoy, president of Vulcan Inc.; Carl Vogel, president & CEO of Charter; and Howard Wood, co-founder of Charter.
