Charter Honors Memorial Day With Acclaimed Films On Demand

In honor of Memorial Day, and the men and women who died while serving, our video customers will have access to a collection of acclaimed movies that tackle the subject of war.

Customers can access a special “Honor To Serve” On Demand category until June 3 by tuning to their On Demand channel and selecting “Honor to Serve” movies. Continue reading below to learn about five of the many acclaimed films available to Spectrum Video customers.

This 1998 epic war drama opens during the Invasion of Normandy in World War II at Omaha Beach. It centers around the search for an American solider, Private First Class James Francis Ryan, the last surviving brother of four servicemen. It was nominated for 11 Academy Awards®, and won five, including Best Director.

"American Sniper"

This film follows the life of United States Navy SEAL veteran and sniper Chris Kyle, who served four combat tours in Iraq. It is described by The Hollywood Reporter as "A taut, vivid and sad account of the brief life of the most accomplished marksman in American military annals." It received six nominations at the 87th Academy Awards® including for Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It won the Oscar® for Best Sound Editing.

"Red Tails" tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American United States Army Air Force servicemen who served during World War II. The film won the NAACP Image Award for "Outstanding Motion Picture" and "Outstanding Independent Motion Picture" in 2013.

Nominated in five categories at the 85th AcademyAwards®, "Zero Dark Thirty" follows the decade-long international manhunt for al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. The dogged work of a CIA analyst is a central piece of the film, along with the military raid by U.S. forces, including Navy SEAL Team 6, that killed bin Laden. The film was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role, and Best Original Screenplay, and won the Oscar® for Best Sound Editing.
