Charter DVR Service Deployed Using S-A's Explorer 8000
ST. LOUIS - Charter Communications Inc., (Nasdaq: CHTR) announced an agreement with Scientific-Atlanta Inc. (NYSE: SFA) for the purchase of Explorer® 8000™ digital set-tops.
Page Shaper, Charter's Corporate Director of Marketing - New Products, said the S-A Explorer 8000 will enable the initial rollout of Charter Digital Video Recording (DVR) service in the Los Angeles area, the first in a series of deployments throughout the company.
“Charter DVR is the next step in the evolution of television viewing,” Ms. Shaper said. “Charter DVR gives our customers complete control over their television viewing. They no longer have to march to the network drum. Now they can pick the day and time they choose to view their favorite programs without having to buy videotape or change that tape every six hours."
Ms. Shaper said the Explorer 8000 is equipped with a hard drive that will store and play back up to 50 hours of programs. Charter DVR provides picture-in-picture capability and enables customers to record two different channels simultaneously while viewing a previously recorded program. Customers can also stop, rewind and pause a show in progress.
