New York, NY Spectrum News NY1 (NY1) recognized nine local high school student athletes in attendance at its annual Scholar Athlete luncheon held today at the Brooklyn Borough Hall. In total, the network awarded 15 high school student athletes with $1,000 scholarships.

This year’s student athletes who excelled in academics, athletics, and volunteered in their local communities were each awarded scholarships to be used toward tuition, room and board, or books. Spectrum News NY1 endowed scholarships to student athletes from Manhattan (5), Queens (2), Staten Island (1), Brooklyn (6) and the Bronx (1).

“We are proud to continue our longstanding tradition of rewarding some of New York City’s young academic stars for their hard work in the classroom and the community,” said Dan Ronayne, Senior Vice President of Spectrum NY1 News. “We congratulate them on their achievements and wish them well in their academic careers.”

In addition to the ceremonial luncheon, NY1 has featured the profile of each student on the network since December 2017. To view the profiles of this year’s winners, viewers may click here. The Scholar Athlete program began in 1999.
